Should your dependency supply be replaced by default, or fixed and guarded where it is? Per Chainguard's Libraries documentation, 28 Oct 2026, its endpoints serve only Chainguard built packages by default, with upstream fallback as an option. Per the same docs, rebuilds can change checksums, which matters for lockfiles. Safeguard's registry passes anything not in Gold through unchanged, while Safeguard Gold rebuilds patched versions of open-source packages from source, signs each build, and attaches an SBOM, SLSA provenance and VEX. Package Firewall evaluates npm and pip installs and can block malicious, typosquatted and dependency confusion packages. The post compares both and ends with a test for your own repositories: https://lnkd.in/gM3B_7sw

Per Chainguard's documentation, 28 Oct 2026, most of its images are distroless and built on its own Wolfi distribution, so adopting them means a base image change. Safeguard Gold rebuilds patched versions of open-source packages and images from source, signs each build, attaches an SBOM, SLSA provenance and VEX, and serves them from https://lnkd.in/gsNhNGDq. The image you chose keeps its name. Per Chainguard's containers page, 28 Oct 2026, it also offers FIPS validated variants and a contractual CVE SLA on paid plans, and the post says where that matters. Do you want one tool to coordinate many scanners, or one engine that goes deep on the problem that hurts most? Per Jit's documentation, read 28 Oct 2026, Jit packages named open source scanners into security plans described as code. Safeguard runs its own engines for supply chain risk and opens tested fix pull requests, with autonomous remediation off until you turn on each category. Each has trade-offs. Our comparison covers where orchestration is strong, what to test on your own repos, and when to choose either: https://lnkd.in/gtJpmznJ

Which 5 things do I fix first? Ask Claude that in plain English, with Safeguard added from Claude's connector directory, and you get a short list of upgrades, not a wall of CVEs. Claude reads your Safeguard vulnerability data and: 1. Puts known exploited flaws at the top, along with anything reachable that already has a fix 2. Uses the severity score only to break ties 3. Groups every vulnerability on one package into one upgrade, and flags major version jumps The connector is read only by default. Claude ranks the list and drafts the ticket text. Per the post, Chainguard has the larger, more mature container catalog, with distroless images, FIPS variants and a CVE SLA on paid plans. We are a competitor, so read this as a vendor's view. Per the post, Chainguard has the more developed rebuilt library catalog, with malware scanning, cooldowns and a verification command. A guardrail that takes your AI feature down gets switched off, and then it protects nothing. That is why Safeguard AI Gateway starts in monitor mode and fails open. It sits between your app and the model provider, evaluates every prompt, response and tool call, and records an audited event for each decision. Traffic passes through unchanged until an admin turns on enforce mode for the tenant, which then redacts or blocks per your policy. Two design points from the docs: a 150 ms default evaluation budget, and raw prompt and response text is never persisted. Fail-closed is an explicit opt-in for teams that want it. Run monitor mode for a week, see what enforcement would have caught, then switch it on. Our four week plan for a Safeguard proof of value: connect a few representative repositories and one pipeline in week one, read SBOMs and findings in week two, run policy gates in warn mode in week three, and finish with a written yes, extend or no in week four. What changed in this release? When a customer or a regulator asks, the answer is a diff between two SBOMs. CISA's 2026 minimum elements say a new build or release should come with a new SBOM. They also add an SBOM author signature and a generation context. One SBOM a quarter does not meet that. The pipeline in our guide, step by step: 1. Generate. safeguard ci scan runs in CI, and each run becomes a project version (named like main-a1b2c3d) with its SBOM. 2. Gate. Fail the step at a severity with --fail-on. 3. Attest. Safeguard signs the attestations it produces with its own key. There is no CLI signing command yet, so signing your own SBOM file is still your step. 4. Publish. Portal keeps an immutable copy per product version. 5. Diff. Compare two releases: components added and removed, version changes, new and resolved vulnerabilities. Read the new vulnerabilities first. Full pipeline, with the caveats: https://lnkd.in/gj27uARQ Footage: SBOM explainer animation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (public domain, https://lnkd.in/gynYcpKT).
